Background facts:
Throughout their tennis racquet era, Adidas always focused on head-to-toe contracts. Contract players were expected to wear and use Adidas from head to toe. This worked with Nastase in the '70s, Lendl in the early-to-mid '80s, and was supposed to continue with Edberg. Because of this, the executives really wanted to equip Edberg with a racquet in addition to his clothing, so they manufactured a frame branded with his name. However, since Edberg never got comfortable with it, they ultimately stuck to a clothing-only contract. Five years later, in 1991, the tennis racquet era was over, and Adidas completely discontinued the program.
The racquet was transferred in 1996 by Adidas Manager Otto Dobrounig to tennishistory.com for permanent historical preservation.
