Daniil Medvedev defeats Novak Djokovic in the US Open final, preventing the first men’s Calendar Grand Slam since 1969.
Emma Raducanu wins the US Open as a qualifier without dropping a set.
Naomi Osaka withdraws from the French Open after declining mandatory press conferences.

 

2016 – 10 years ago

Novak Djokovic wins Roland Garros and completes the Career Grand Slam.
Andy Murray becomes World No. 1 for the first time on 7 November 2016.
Angelique Kerber wins the Australian Open and the US Open and finishes the year as World No. 1.

2006 – 20 years ago

Roger Federer wins the Australian Open, Wimbledon and the US Open and reaches the Roland Garros final.
Andre Agassi ends his career at the US Open after losing to Benjamin Becker in the third round.

1996 – 30 years ago

Richard Krajicek defeats Pete Sampras in the Wimbledon quarterfinals and goes on to win the title.
Andre Agassi wins the Olympic gold medal in singles at the Atlanta Olympic Games.
Steffi Graf wins the US Open, defeating Monica Seles in the final.

1986 – 40 years ago

Ivan Lendl defeats Miloslav Mečíř to win the US Open.
Stefan Edberg is defaulted from the Australian Open after his serve strikes line umpire Dick Wertheim.

1976 – 50 years ago

Björn Borg wins Wimbledon for the first time, defeating Ilie Năstase in the final.
Adriano Panatta wins the French Open, defeating Harold Solomon in the final.

1966 – 60 years ago

Roy Emerson wins Wimbledon and the US Championships in the same season.
Billie Jean King wins Wimbledon and becomes the dominant women’s player of the mid-1960s.

1956 – 70 years ago

Lew Hoad wins Wimbledon, defeating Ken Rosewall in the final.
Shirley Fry wins the Wimbledon women’s singles title.


 

1946 – 80 years ago

★ Wimbledon is held again for the first time after World War II.
Yvon Petra wins the Wimbledon men’s singles title.

1936 – 90 years ago

Fred Perry wins his third consecutive Wimbledon title.
Don Budge wins the US Championships for the first time.

1926 – 100 years ago

Suzanne Lenglen turns professional and signs a contract to tour the United States with promoter C. C. Pyle.
René Lacoste wins Wimbledon, defeating Jean Borotra in the final.

1916 - 110 years ago

★ Wimbledon remained suspended during World War I. The Championships were not held between 1915 and 1918.

1906 - 120 years ago

★ Laurence Doherty wins Wimbledon for the fifth and final time, defeating Frank Riseley in the Challenge Round.

Norman Brookes wins the Wimbledon Challenge Round in 1907, becoming the first overseas champion, after finishing runner-up in 1906.

1896 - 130 years ago

★ Tennis was included in the first modern Olympic Games in Athens in 1896, where John Pius Boland won the men’s singles gold medal.

1886 - 140 years ago

William Renshaw wins Wimbledon for the sixth consecutive time, defeating Herbert Lawford in the Challenge Round.

1876 – 150 years ago

★ The All England Croquet Club decides to introduce lawn tennis and begins preparing rules for a championship tournament in the following year.
