Background facts:
The Streamline Blue Star was the first production model based on Frank W. Donisthorpe’s patented triple-shaft racquet design. Introduced in 1935, it marked the beginning of the Hazell’s Streamline series, which was later expanded through the Red Star, Green Star and White Star models. The Blue Star featured the characteristic central shaft and two supporting side members connecting the handle and the racquet head, a construction that distinguished the Streamline from conventional wooden racquets of the period. Contemporary advertising emphasized the aerodynamic qualities of the design and its reduced wind resistance. The model became closely associated with British player Henry Wilfred “Bunny” Austin, who featured prominently in Hazell’s promotional material throughout the 1930s. Austin remained linked with the Streamline series until the end of his career, including his appearance in the 1938 Wimbledon final against Donald Budge.
