Background facts:
Wright & Ditson Longwood. Founded in 1871, Wright & Ditson was bought by Spalding 20 years later, in 1891. However, they kept the name Wright & Ditson well into the late 1940s. It was one of “the largest manufacturers of the line of goods in the country, rackets, balls, nets, and poles”. The Longwood was one of the high performers of the company. Appearing first in 1890 at a list price of 4 USD, it was manufactured until 1924. Also offered with cork and cross-cut handle, head shape changed from slight flat-top to more oval, the design changed in the course of time.
